Impulse current laboratory

The impulse current test system includes two exponential and a long-duration current impulse circuits.

Exponential current impulse circuit

The exponential impulse current test systems can be configured for lightning, switching, high and steep impulse currents, for example for measuring surge arrester or varistor characteristics. The tests are carried out in accordance with IEC 60099-4. The different current forms with the maximum possible current levels and residual voltages are listed below.

Long-duration current impulse circuit

The long-duration current impulse circuit is used to study the long wave strength respectively the charge transfer rating, which serve as measures of the single-pulse energy absorption capacity of surge arresters or varistors. The possible current forms are listed below.
